29/05/06 to 01/06/06
Junior Carp Camp 2006 was held at Horseshoe Lake from 29 May to 1 June and was a tremendous success with all of the 40 students aged from 10 – 17 yrs putting fish on the bank. This a testament to the dedication of the guys who gave up their own fishing time and holidays to come along and instruct and help the boys and girls improve their angling abilities.

The event’s success was also down to the positive attitude of the students in absorbing what they were taught in the structured sessions and then applying the knowledge back in their swims along with further help and advice from their instructors.

A very respectable 116 fish were landed, 47 Doubles, 36 over 20lb, 25 over 25lb and 8 big 30’s with the biggest fish coming out at 34lb 04oz. It was the two youngsters fishing pegs 6 and 7 who really showed the true spirit of the event when they set the ball rolling after catching six or seven fish between them they (without any prompting from their instructor) announced that now that they had both caught new personal best’s they wanted to see some of the other lads that hadn’t caught so far have a chance to catch. They promptly sat back and watched whilst other juniors caught fish from their swim so well done to Tom Rossiter aged 13 and Daniel Hughes aged 11 for setting such a fine example to others in a display of unselfish sportsmanship.

The Junior event followed on directly from another highly successful Adult MasterClass organised by Tim Wagner for which the weather was absolutely horrible with brisk cold winds and driving rain pretty much right through the weekend. Bank Holiday Monday when the Juniors were due, arrived with the weather changing, the wind dropping, rain moving on, the sun came out and stayed with us throughout, which went a long way to improving everyone's chances.

Once again the event was very generously sponsored by the companies who regularly support us on these events, so a very big thank you to Korda Developments for rig bits, leads, etc. Also thanks to Danny Fairbrass for coming along and giving his lesson on rigs in the marquee and for staying with us for the whole event and looking after a couple of juniors.

Also thanks to Wychwood for providing all of the students with a fish care package comprising of unhooking Mat, weighsling, forceps and antiseptic, Thanks also to Tony Primavarina, Product Development Manager for Wychwood for also looking after a couple of youngsters.

And last but by no means least, thanks to new company, 3 Native for providing camo Baseball Caps and air drying mesh bags for everyone from their very attractive range of clothing specially designed for the young angler.

The Society events are renowned for their food and this was no exception. Malcolm Coller and Josie Ricketts made sure that this particular event maintained the standard!

This was the last event to be held under canvas, all future Horseshoe events will be held in the magnificent new Fishing Lodge nearing completion on the Horseshoe site.
