ABOUT US

Carp fishing has developed considerably in the last twenty or thirty years and we've needed to keep pace with the commercial development of the carp angling industry.

To that end we run three very successful lakes, one of which is the famous Horseshoe which carp anglers have access to via a member or non member status. It continues to be one of the leading carp lakes in the country with its stock of magnificent looking fish.
(See Waters)

We run a number of events at Horseshoe which include our annual Junior Carp Camp and Adult MasterClass both of which are open to members and non members. A major event that’s become part of the carp angler’s annual calendar is our enormously popular Winter Show at Sandown Park, Esher. This is one of the most successful carp-only events of the year in late November. (See Events)

Alongside our commercial activities we are frequently consulted by government bodies, the angling trust and we contribute to much behind the scenes activity with regard to angling politics.

The organisation revolves around our headquarters at Horseshoe where we have an outstanding Centre of Excellence with its modern facilities including Horseshoe Tackle and Bait, and a Clubroom used for events or for private hire. (See Venue)

The management of The Carp Society is outlined in our Memorandum & Articles, however there are two full time employees and several volunteer directors who all contribute their time to the activities of the organisation. Memorandum & Articles

HISTORY

2011 is our thirtieth year.

The need for a new national carp organisation was originally suggested to Tim Paisley by Rod Hutchinson in the late seventies. As the momentum for the project gathered pace Tim enlisted the help of Greg Fletcher, George Sharman and Colin Dyson. The result of this collaboration saw the inaugural meeting of The Carp Society take place at the Kenwood Hotel, Sheffield on the 24th May 1981.

From the outset the Society was a success and received tremendous support with over 1800 carp anglers joining in the first twelve months. By the spring of 1986 membership had risen to in excess of 2000. In 1993 membership had grown sufficient to make the Society the largest specialist-angling organisation in Europe.

ADMINISTRATION
At an EGM convened in October 2001, the members voted for the Society to become a company Limited by Guarantee. This enabled the club to legally own property on behalf of its members, and, with its own 'legal' personality, it could take actions in its own name against its creditors. The original complex structure of three companies, The Carp Society, Horseshoe Lake Limited and Carp Society Enterprises were therefore replaced with The Carp Society Limited. The Memorandum and Articles are provided below. A printed version can be made available on request to the Head Office at Horseshoe Lake. Memorandum & Articles
